Our first event, called “Shared Streets”, was a great success! On September 1st, 2013, Dempster Street in Evanston was full of happy people thoroughly enjoying their public spaces. From the number of power bars eaten, we estimate a crowd of 2000-2500. Check out this video from Chicago Sun-Times for some interviews from the day. We are grateful to our sponsors, activity leaders and many volunteers for making this street a wonderful place to spend a summer day!

It was a celebration of safe, healthy, sustainable transportation; and a reclamation of space and time for community building. We demonstrated two hot topics: the street as a place, and the complete street.
